The Python table-creation call in LanceDB’s Markdown quickstart contains an escaped underscore. Copied verbatim into Python, the line fails during parsing:
table = db.create\_table("characters", data=data, mode="overwrite")
SyntaxError: unexpected character after line continuation characterServe Python inside fenced code blocks, preserving literal identifiers without Markdown escaping. Add a check that extracts Python snippets from the served Markdown and compiles them.
Removing the escape makes this line compile. An independent control created a local table, searched two synthetic vectors, filtered a nested field, and converted the result to Polars successfully.
Environment: Ubuntu x86_64, Python 3.12.3, LanceDB 0.40.0, Polars 2.0.0, PyArrow 26.0.0. No paid APIs or remote database.
This is a copyability defect in the Markdown path. An agent can repair the escaping; we have not measured failed onboarding or lost revenue. Browser copy-button behavior and other environments were not tested.
